Meet the Merridale makers - Owner and Distiller, Rick Pipes; Master Blender and Distiller, Laurent Lafuente; Chef & Baker, Perry North.
Take this rare opportunity to see behind the scenes and witness the passion that creates the food and drink at Merridale. Check in for this event at the farmhouse before making your way to the distillery for a sensory analysis (appearance, nose, texture, and taste) of some of our hidden gems. Group sizes will be small, giving the opportunity to ask questions in a more intimate setting. At this event we will be tasting:
- Whiskey Jack's, which was distilled and barreled from organic malt in 2007, and now no longer on the market;
- Pear Brandy, which was made from BC Bartlett pears distilled in 2007, aged in new French Oak barrels for more than 6 years and won best in show at the American Distilling Institute; and
- XXO Brandy, which was made from select BC grapes in a single vineyard, single batch, and single barrel brandy.
Merridale won 6 awards including a Best in Class at the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition (CASC), so we are thrilled to be sharing these vintage spirits with you. XX0 Brandy and Pear Brandy were winners, but we did not enter Whisky Jack's in the competition; it just didn't make sense given it is no longer available for purchase. However, for this evening only, the coveted spirit will make its last tasting debut, and will be available for purchase (limit one bottle per person).
For those of you not familiar with the competition, the CASC focuses on craft spirits from across Canada, celebrating micro-distilling. An independent panel of judges blind-tasted and evaluated each spirit according to a set criteria for craft distilling. We are very proud to report that Merridale was one of the strongest performers at the competition. All 6 products entered won an award and our Cowichan Copper Gin won Best in Class! Scroll down for a list of our award-winning spirits. Thank you for letting us share!
Now back to Meet the Merridale Makers! After giving our award-winning spirits a try in the distillery, join us in the farmhouse to talk to our chef and other team members as you explore the art of our cocktails and savour appetizers made from in-house ingredients. Guests attending this event will have the opportunity to purchase a bottle of Whiskey Jack's, which will be the last offering of this vintage spirit, as well as other spirits, ciders and products, of course!
The price for this evening is $29 per person and includes sensory analysis lead by the makers and owner with 3 vintage spirits, one fortified tasting, appetizers, recipes for our cocktails, and the opportunity to ask questions about craft in a relaxed, intimate setting. For an additional cost, you can purchase drinks at the bar, and one bottle of Whiskey Jack's per customer. Please note, this is not a dinner but a tasting event.
Merridale wants everyone to have a safe ride home. We have arranged for shuttle service departing at 3:00pm from Noodlebox at Uptown in Victoria for the low price of $20 per person. The shuttle will depart Merridale at the end of the event, 7:00pm, to return to Victoria. Relax and let Wilson’s Transportation do the driving!
At this price, tickets will sell fast and space is limited!
