4 Reasons to Escape to Merridale's Orchard this Fall

1. You can take a rejuvenating walk in a sea of apple trees.

Harvest is a magical time to visit Merridale. This year, when having a little extra space feels even more important, the orchard provides a sanctuary of calm and safety. There is something uplifting about the trees going about their regular business, oblivious that anything is out of the ordinary.

Take an autumn wander through our 20-acre orchard. Stop, breathe, and unwind.   The light, fresh scent of apples in the air, the rustle of leaves beneath your feet, and the sounds of nature all around you, will give you the extra space you need.  Perfect for spacious socializing with family and friends.

You can even bring your puppy along.  Dogs on leash are always welcome anywhere on the Merridale property (sorry folks, we aren’t allowed to have Fido in the farmhouse, though). Take Fido for a walk through the orchard, on the self guided tour of the cellar and distillery or have him join you  at one of the picnic tables in our courtyard cider garden …while you enjoy a glass of Apple Pie cider, of course.

2. You can learn about craft cider and spirit making.

Take our free self-guided tour and maybe even witness cider production in action. Throughout the fall, our team is picking and pressing. Come learn what makes craft cider so special and why Cowichan has the perfect conditions for growing cider apples.  It really does!  If you want to see the pressing in action, please call ahead.  We don’t want you to be disappointed, as we don’t press every day.  Call on the day you are thinking of coming, because the schedule changes daily based on the weather and whether nature is ready for us to pick. We only pick the apples when they are perfectly ripe.

3. You can savour the flavours of fall – Lunch, brunch and dinner!

From our craft ciders and cocktails to the farm-inspired comfort food on our menu, there is no better place to taste fall flavours than Merridale.

Sip fall favourites like our Apple Pie cider that has cinnamon spice and a hint of brown sugar or our Harvest Brandy cocktail that features our Calvados-style cider brandy.

Cozy up with a pipping hot bowl of soup with fresh brick oven bread or a warm Scrumpy pot pie   Our lunch and brunch menu is served 7 days a week starting at 11.  New this fall, we have launched into farm-to-table dinners Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Every week, we feature a new theme that makes the most of the seasonal bounty.  Follow our social media channels if you want to learn what our kitchen team has created for your enjoyment.

4. You can bring the whole family.

Merridale is a great place to bring the family. We’re very proud to be family-owned and operated. We truly value our family time and have worked to create a space where everyone is welcome together. In fact, our whole property is family friendly. In the orchard you will find a Faerie Walk and orchard scavenger hunt for kids. Big kids (YOU), are encouraged to join in the fun of this walk, too.  And when your kids have worked up an appetite, we offer a kid’s menu and even craft sodas and a non-alcoholic flight.
